Tom Sleigh, Chair of the Property Investment Board at the City of London Corporation gave a speech to the audience, outlining the need to reinvigorate and reinvent Fleet Street to retain some of its unique character. Once an internationally renowned media hub, the area has suffered a loss of identity in recent years. However, with plans for a Fleet Street Partnership to drive regeneration, the area faces an exciting opportunity of investment possibilities.

Alastair Subba Row, Senior Partner at Farebrother, described Fleet Street as the “last piece of the Midtown jigsaw”, emphasising the much needed investment in this historic part of the capital. However, the opening of Crossrail will only serve to encourage and enable this further.
An expert panel, including speakers from the City of London Corporation, Eric Parry Architects and Landsec discussed how Fleet Street is proving to be increasingly recognized as a hub of legal excellence, as the centre of the compass of legal institutions such as Rolls Court, International Court of Justice, Criminal Court and the Royal Court of Justice.
A strong theme that emerged from this discussion was the need to make Fleet Street an attractive place to work and visit. Key audience questions sought to discover the plans to open up the area as a green, clean public space.
