City Property Association’s report, Delivering Destination City: The growth strategy for the Square Mile, explores how the property industry can work with the City of London Corporation and other partners to deliver a truly magnetic place for businesses and workers.
Launched in 2021 to re-energise the Square Mile post-pandemic, Destination City has evolved into an ambitious growth strategy for the Square Mile. Building on our earlier Visualising Destination City research, this report supports this shift from vision to delivery.
It features best-in-class case studies on Bank Junction, Broadworks, Camomile Street, Exchange Square, Finsbury Circus Gardens and Greyfriars Square alongside forewords from the City Corporation’s Planning & Transportation Chairman, Tom Sleigh, and London’s Walking & Cycling Commissioner, Dr Will Norman.
The report proposes a series of practical recommendations on public-private collaboration:
- Introducing a Square Mile Spatial Vision to articulate a shared vision for growth and enable coordinated delivery.
- Appointing a dedicated Destination City Champion to drive forward ideas, navigate practical barriers and secure buy-in from key stakeholders.
- Delivering convivial public realm through softer, more tactile environments.
- Developing a digital wayfinding system to improve the experience for workers and visitors and encourage exploration.
- Strengthening the collaboration between the property industry and City Corporation to ensure that public benefits from development are directed into spaces and places desired by workers.
- Exploring innovative funding models to unlock private and public sector investment into the public spaces and infrastructure required by a truly global city.
