In response to Government reforms limiting the size of planning committees, the City Corporation is introducing a new structure for its Planning Applications Sub-Committee.
From November 2026, the existing 33-member committee will move to three panels of 13, with each acting like their own subcommittee, scheduled on an alternating basis. Members will be allocated across the panels based on planning committee experience. Planning & Transportation Chairman Tom Sleigh and Deputy Chairman Madush Gupta intend to sit on all three panels.
The Policy & Resources Committee considered and approved the proposed changes on Thursday 24 September. These will be taken for final consideration and approval by the Court of Common Council ahead of the Autumn 2026 roll out of the new legislation.
