Is the City running out of office space?

24 February 2026 to 24 Feb 2026
8:00 am to 10:00 am

This seminar brought together 170 members to examine the findings from our City of London Deep Dive, part of the wider Space for Change analysis. The research highlights that Square Mile contains over 54 million sq ft of secondary office space, accounting for more than 56% of the City’s total office stock.

Report author Shabab Qadar set out the key forces shaping the City’s office market, from supply and demand pressures to the concentration of secondary stock and the scope to reposition underperforming buildings. A panel discussion followed, with industry and political leaders exploring how to unlock the latent value of this space and where change of use can most effectively support the City’s long-term success and appeal.

Our speakers included:

  • Jay Ahluwalia, Principal Director, Dominus
  • Nikki Dibley, CPA Vice Chair and Senior Development Executive, Helical (panel chair)
  • Geoff Harris, Head of Development – Europe, Nuveen Real Estate
  • Shabab Qadar, Partner, London Research, Knight Frank
  • Gwyn Richards, Planning and Development Director, City of London Corporation
  • Katie Sommer, Director – City Agency, JLL
